Every Year around 330 million tonnes of waste is produced in the UK

  • 550,000 to 900,000 tonnes is textiles 
  • 3% of rubbish in bins is textiles 
  • 400,000 to 700,000 tonnes of textiles end up in landfill sites each year 
  • 50% of all textiles ending up in landfills could have been recycled 
  • Only 250,000 tonnes is actually recycled each year 
  • Excessive amounts of Energy Consumption, Time and Materials goes into developing textiles 
  • Many materials may not decompose or  take a very long time and potentially give off greenhouse gases during decomposition 
  • Landfill sites are becoming limited every year
